Charles Johnson, wide receiver for Patriots 2001 Super Bowl team, dies at 50

Former NFL receiver Charles Johnson, who won a Super Bowl with the 2001 New England Patriots, has died at the age of 50.

CBS 17 in North Carolina was the first to report Johnson’s passing. The news was later confirmed by Heritage High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Johnson worked as a coach and assistant athletic director at the school. The cause of Johnson’s death has not yet been reported.

Johnson played nine NFL seasons, arriving in the league as a first-round pick with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1994. After five seasons in Pittsburgh, Johnson went on to play for the Eagles and Patriots before finishing his career with the Bills in 2002.
