FOXBORO — It was a chance encounter. Greg McCaig ran into Stanford coach David Shaw and chatted about a shared former pupil.
They were returning from the American Football Coaches Association Convention in Indianapolis last January. They were on the same flight, and the subject was then-rookie Pats offensive lineman Cameron Fleming.
McCaig, Fleming’s coach at Cypress Creek High in Houston, remembers it well.
“(Shaw said) Cameron was just physically, just the most naturally strong guy he’s ever coached,” McCaig recalled.
It didn’t come as a total shock.
“(At Cy-Creek), he would just annihilate folks,” McCaig said.
