Cam Newton had no interest in contesting the New England Patriots’ decision to put him on the bench for the fourth quarter of the team’s blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7.
The decision didn’t catch Newton by surprise.
“No, I’m a realist,” Newton told WEEI on the “Greg Hill Show” on Monday.
After the game, Bill Belichick expressed that Newton was “absolutely” still the starter. It probably helped that Jarrett Stidham, the backup, still looked like a work in progress after the team drafted him in the fourth round in 2019.
