The Cam Newton era in New England is reportedly set to end after Sunday.
During an appearance of “Sunday NFL Countdown,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Patriots and the 31-year-old quarterback expect to go their separate ways this offseason, with Newton looking for a new team and the Patriots seeking a new quarterback.
The Patriots signed Newton to a low-risk, incentive-laden deal this offseason after the 2015 NFL MVP was let go by the Carolina Panthers. Newton sought to rebuild his stock with a new franchise and took the reigns of a Patriots team that was looking for its first starting quarterback since Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.
