Byrne: Pats' lost titles a statistical mystery

The New England Patriots have fattened themselves at a victory buffet unmatched in the history of the NFL.

Most Patriots fans can recite the menu: four Super Bowl victories, six conference crowns, 10 AFC title game appearances and 13 division titles, while winning nearly 80 percent of all games played in a 15-year reign.

Tom Brady was battered by the Broncos in Sunday’s AFC title game loss. But he remains the winningest quarterback in the history of the NFL, by a wide margin. Barring an unexpected retirement or injury, Brady will retire in the top three or four in every major individual passing statistic, while holding the all-time records by a QB for total wins, win percentage and win-loss differential.
