Buckley on CTE: Would players keep playing if they knew they had it?

In the football world of today, we need the brains of dead players to better understand and study chronic traumatic encephalopathy, commonly known as CTE.

But what’s going to happen when medical science reaches the stage when CTE can be diagnosed in living players?

That’s the goal of researchers from Boston University School of Medicine and the VA Boston Healthcare System, who discovered a new biomarker that in the years ahead might allow football players, and people from all walks of life, to be treated for CTE.

According to a study published yesterday in a journal called “PLOS ONE,” researchers studied the brains of 23 former college and pro football players.
