SANTA CLARA, Calif. — This might be remembered as Peyton Manning’s grand finale, but the Denver Broncos claimed the golden Super Bowl because of a defense that suffocated the Carolina Panthers and sucked the life out of Cam Newton.
The Broncos stifled the Panthers, 24-10, last night at Levi’s Stadium to claim Super Bowl 50 by holding the league’s highest-scoring offense to its lowest output of the season, sacking Newton a half dozen times and hitting him 13 times overall. The Broncos had seven sacks overall.
“It feels great,” said Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, who had 21⁄2 sacks.
