Former New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes’ hit-and-run guilty plea yesterday was likely aimed at clearing the road for a return to the NFL, a sports management analyst said.
“I’m sure having resolution on this matter is important for Spikes because he wants to continue his NFL career. He’s of an age there may not be many years left in his career,” said Michael McCann of the University of New Hampshire’s Sports and Entertainment Law Institute. “I think he’s more attractive to teams because the plea deal will not require him to go to jail and the teams that are interested in him, if there are any, will know this matter has been resolved.
