FOXBORO — “Coachspeak,” that odd form of communication that endeavors to say nothing while purporting to be illuminating, has become a staple of NFL life. It is, at times, more valuable than victory itself because if there is anything coaches are more fixated on than winning it’s obfuscating.
“We need to play better, coach better, prepare better,” is another way of blaming nobody by seeming to blame everybody. It’s a way of not taking responsibility by claiming to be taking responsibility. In the barnyard, there would be a two letter invective to describe this approach.
A popular phrase in “coachspeak” is so-and-so “gives us the best chance to win.
