There were earlier reports that at least one team was willing to greatly overpay for Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin in free agency.
Many assumed that the team was the receiver-needy New England Patriots, and according to NFL insider Albert Breer, that was reportedly the case. The Patriots were the "blank check" team desperately trying to sign the former All-Pro receiver.
Breer wrote:
"My understanding is that the blank check team was the Patriots, and it wasn’t the first time the Bucs had gotten such affirmation from a star receiver.
