FOXBOROUGH – Bill Belichick’s secondary went through a major change over the past year. After J.C. Jackson signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency, the Patriots entered this offseason looking to revamp and rebuild their cornerback depth chart.
At the time, many thought Jalen Mills would stay outside while Jonathan Jones would remain the Patriots slot cornerback. In the middle of training camp, however, Belichick opted to experiment by moving Jones to the outside cornerback spot.
It was a surprise move back then, but it wasn’t surprising that Belichick opted to lean on one of his most reliable players to fill an important position.
