As Scooby Wright III returns, Patriots release Gerri Green from practice squad

Scooby Wright III reconvened with the New England Patriots on Friday.

The 25-year-old linebacker, who started and recorded two sacks in New England’s preseason finale less than a week after signing, had previously been waived as part of Labor Day weekend’s roster deadline.

Wright’s return to the Gillette Stadium backfields coincides with defensive end Gerri Green’s release from the practice squad, as ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported.

Wright originally entered the league in the seventh round of the 2016 draft. A 6-foot, 240-pound unanimous All-American while at the University of Arizona, he’s since made stops with the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals and the Alliance of American Football’s Arizona Hotshots.
