Allen all alone at punter position

FOXBORO — Nothing tells a professional football player he’s wanted like a contract extension at the start of training camp.

Punter Ryan Allen felt the monetary love from Patriots management on July 25 when the team added three years and a reported $6.1 million dollars to his current contract.

The vote of confidence combined with a substantial salary bump has put Allen in the proper frame of mind for the dog days of the NFL preseason. He is the only punter in camp and, barring injury, will be on the roster for the season opener on Sept.
