All eyes on LG Mason to fill spot

FOXBORO — As Patriots training camp continues, one area to keep an eye on is the development at left guard on the offensive line.

It’s something left tackle Nate Solder should be paying attention to, as well.

Last year, the early-season woes of the offensive line could be pinpointed to left guard, and it clearly affected Solder’s performance. Marcus Cannon started the first three games of the season at left guard, and it wasn’t pretty. It left Solder to overcompensate as he tried to help his struggling linemate, leaving quarterback Tom Brady’s blind side vulnerable.

Cannon was benched and replaced by veteran Dan Connolly, and the results were miles better.
