After long rehab, getting on field worth wait for Patriots’ Tyler Gaffney

FOXBORO — It’s fair to say Tyler Gaffney possesses a good amount of patience.

Despite being selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 2014 NFL draft, the running back did not play a single snap in the NFL — preseason or otherwise — until the Patriots’ 34-22 preseason win last night over the Saints.

And while it was a longer wait for an opportunity than Gaffney hoped, he made the most of it.

Gaffney rushed for 64 yards on nine carries, including a 44-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Not bad, especially while shaking off some serious rust.
