The New England Patriots are currently linked to five head coaching candidates, but one stands out among them as the clear frontrunner — at least in the eyes of NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Appearing on WEEI on Wednesday afternoon, Schefter said that Mike Vrabel is “absolutely the leading candidate” to eventually land the job. Vrabel is scheduled to interview with the Patriots on Thursday.
“He is a logical choice, and I think it probably would be a surprise if it didn’t work out,” Schefter said. “But you can go through any number of coaching searches over time and say, ‘Well, Josh McDaniels was supposed to get the Colts job, Bill Belichick was supposed to get the Jets job.
