Patriots assistants John Jastremski and Jim McNally are still suspended, but under whose jurisdiction remains unclear.
In May, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the NFL had asked the Patriots to suspend the employees embroiled in the Deflategate controversy.
The Patriots banished the two indefinitely, and on Monday applied to the league office to have them reinstated.
However, earlier this week commissioner Roger Goodell denied that the league had ever ordered the Patriots to suspend the tandem in the first place.
“Absolutely not," Goodell said. "That was a decision made by the Patriots.”
Schefter took exception to Goodell's comments that contradicted his initial report, and took the commissioner to task this morning on Mike & Mike.
