The Patriots’ pursuits to land a big-name wide receiver this offseason have fallen short through the first week of free agency.
DK Metcalf went to the Steelers in a deal that included an extension. Chris Godwin opted to remain with the Buccaneers after hitting free agency. Cooper Kupp offered the latest blow to the Patriots’ chase for a top wide out, agreeing to a deal to join the Seahawks.
New England was linked to all three players, at least to varying degrees. It reportedly made Godwin a larger offer than Tampa Bay did and it was among the initial group of teams pursuing Kupp in free agency.
