The Bengals added Irv Smith in free agency. While they successfully completed a career rehabilitation project with Hayden Hurst last year, Smith has had a bit more of a mercurial NFL career to this point. It would be a stretch to rely on him as the clear-cut, no-doubt starter. The Bengals don’t need a ton out of the tight end position given how strong their receiver room is but a rookie with some upside would be a nice addition, even if that guy comes on stronger only toward the end of the year.
