The Patriots have one of the top linebacker trios in the NFL, but the depth behind isn’t nearly as strong. Bill Belichick made a move to address that by adding Mississippi State linebacker Matthew Wells.
Wells is a coverage/special teams linebacker that trades size (6’1″, 220 pounds) for speed. He ran a sub 4.5 forty-yard dash at his pro day. With his speed he could be used a “money” safety in sub situations.
Wells will likely compete with the likes of James Morris, Nate Ebner and Chris White for one of the final spots on the 53-man roster this fall.
