Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne has been cut by the New England Patriots, per Josina Anderson of ESPN:
A source just told me that #Patriots WR Reggie Wayne “will not be on 53.” Added, “he will not be there."

The Patriots did guarantee $450,000 of Wayne’s salary two weeks ago, but it appears he wanted out of his contract looking at a diminished role with the defending champs.
Via Tom Pelissero of USA Today:
As others said, Reggie Wayne asked to be released, per source. If true, #Patriots probably want that $450K bonus back.

Wayne being cut likely means that Aaron Dobson's spot will be safe as he, Jalen Saunders and Chris Harper are the only other wideouts on the roster behind Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola and the PUP-listed Brandon LaFell.
While this is may not be the last we see of the 36-year-old Wayne, there's still the looming possibility that he will choose to retire rather than trying to catch on at the back end of another team's WR rotation.
