The New England Patriots have officially re-signed linebacker Dont'a Hightower, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

New England did not use their franchise tag on Hightower, allowing him to visit other teams. The Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets emerged as the two favorites to to steal him from the Patriots, but he decided to return.
Hightower, New England's starting middle linebacker who has spent his entire five-year career with the Patriots, had 65 tackles with one forced fumble and 2.5 sacks last season.
