The New England Patriots could have a chance to substantially improve their offensive line if they can pull off a trade for Philadelphia Eagles guard Evan Mathis - a trade that the Patriots have reportedly expressed interest in.
Here's Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald with the report:
[The Patriots] have expressed interest in acquiring Eagles left guard Evan Mathis in a trade, according to a source. It appears the Eagles are poised to move Mathis, who was a Pro Bowler the past two seasons, but it's unclear how many teams are in the bidding and how realistic the Patriots' chances would be to land the 33-year-old.
Mathis would come with base salaries of $5.5 million in 2015 and $6 million in 2016.
Mathis was sidelined for seven games in 2014 due to a knee injury, but he did appear in 47 of 48 regular-season contests from 2011-13. If the veteran guard can return to his old durable form, he's widely regarded as one of the best guards in the entire NFL.
Stay tuned.
