With the 32nd pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select Malcom Brown out of Texas.
Position: Defensive Tackle
Measurables: 6’2”, 319 lbs, 32 1/2” arm length, 10” hands
Analysis:
Brown emerged as one of Texas’ most important players as a freshman, but drew the attention of scouts in 2013 by starting all 13 games and recording 68 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss, and five pass breakups. He followed that up with a better 2014 season that resulted in All-American honors and was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award (top defender) and Outland Trophy (top interior lineman) in 2014, recording 64 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sack.
His size, athleticism, and college production all point to him having an immediate impact at the next level. Brown projects to be a 4-3 defensive tackle, allowing him to face one blocker instead of the two he faced in the Longhorns’ defensive scheme.
