After running through its preseason slate, the Nevada women's basketball team faced a much different opponent for its conference opener.
New Mexico got out to a big lead early and made it stand up as the Lobos beat the Wolf Pack, 88-69, on Thursday at Lawlor Events Center.
Nevada dropped to 4-2 overall, and New Mexico improved to 4-0.
Game two of the series is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Lawlor (Radio- 94.5 FM).
Nevada coach Amanda Levens used the preseason schedule to try to get her 10 newcomers to mesh with the six returners.
