Wolf Pack wins battle in trenches, drubs Lobos

The statistic has been recited over and over in the last couple of weeks.

When Nevada has out-rushed its opponent in coach Brian Polian’s three seasons, the Wolf Pack is 11-2.

When Nevada has been out-rushed by its opponent under Polian, the Wolf Pack is 2-15.

And with Nevada, a run-first team, hosting New Mexico, another run-first team, on Saturday at Mackay Stadium, the rushing attack would tell the story in the battle of schools with wolf-inspired mascots.

The Wolf Pack won that battle, besting the Lobos in the trenches, overcoming two bad turnovers, bouncing back from last week’s loss to UNLV and improving to 12-2 when it out-rushes its foe, this time the victory coming in the form of a 35-17 decision in front of an announced attendance of 20,426 fans.
