Lawlor Events Center was ready to party Wednesday night and the Nevada basketball team delivered the explosives to pop the top off the arena in an historic rout of Silver State rival UNLV.
Students lined up for the game hours in advance, fans poured into the arena when the doors opened an hour before tip-off, famed ring announcer Michael Buffer whipped the crowd into a frenzy with his pre-game introductions and the Wolf Pack, debuting special jerseys for the game, didn’t disappoint.
Playing before 11,841 fans, the largest crowd in Lawlor’s 33-year history, Nevada raced to a 24-point first-half lead before taking a 104-77 wire-to-wire win.
