Arizona’s Scooby Wright was the best defensive player in the nation in 2014.
He won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Rotary Lombardi Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award, all given annually to the NCAA’s top defender. He was the Pac-12 defense player of the year. He was a unanimous All-American. And he entered this season as a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate.
But Wright, a junior linebacker, won’t suit up when Arizona visits Nevada on Saturday.
Wright suffered a lateral meniscus tear in the Wildcats’ season opener against Texas-San Antonio and while he’s not out for the season, he will miss an extended period of time following surgery this week.
