The Wolf Pack has made it a habit of making money off its bowl games and that is expected to continue again for next week’s Arizona Bowl, but the profit likely won’t be as robust as usual.
Nevada has played in nine bowls in the previous 10 season and has made money in each of those appearances, with the minimum rake being $53,000 for the 2010 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. The Pack has averaged a $129,782 profit per bowl and made around $200,000 for last year’s New Orleans Bowl.
For the Arizona Bowl, which is Tuesday in Tucson, the Wolf Pack has received a stipend and travel allowance of $672,000 from the Mountain West, which tries to avoid the financial risk for its bowl participants by pooling the revenue and expenses for its teams and giving each program an allowance.
