When Sam Williams was at Hug High, he got some words of wisdom from his coach, Charles Walker.
“My coach told me basketball is a passport that can take you everywhere as long as you use it correctly,” Williams said Monday. “That’s one of the most powerful things that’s ever been said to me.”
That passport has taken Williams from his hometown of Decatur, Ga., to Reno to San Jacinto, Calif., to Fullerton, nearly to Oregon and eventually to the place he always wanted to be: on Nevada’s roster.
The 6-foot-8, 210-pound wing player committed to Nevada last September but didn’t officially join the team until last week when he was cleared to begin practicing with the Wolf Pack.
