Wild ride lands Gimenez a niche in the big leagues

Last October, Chris Gimenez had a front row seat for one of the wildest innings in baseball history.

The Wolf Pack alum, a catcher for the Texas Rangers, was in the squat for Jose Bautista’s home run and subsequent bat flip that went viral in Toronto’s series-clinching game five victory in the American League Division Series.

That home run capped an epic 53-minute inning. It included a catcher throwing a ball off a bat leading to an unusual run, fans reigning trash on the field, a bench-clearing scrum, infield errors on three straight plays followed by a misjudged popup and eventually Bautista’s home run and bat flip heard round Canada.
