Reno Gazette-Journal columnist Chris Murray has been known to be a bit wordy, so we're giving him 1,000 words (no more than that) to share his thoughts from the week that was in the world of sports.
* WHEN UNLV BEGAN THE SEARCH for its next basketball coach, it tempted fans with a Japanese Kobe Beef. Rick Pitino’s name was splashed across newsprint down south and nobody from UNLV was doing anything to dispel that far-flung notion. As the search accelerated (or perhaps lurked forward is the better phrase), it was clear the Kobe Beef known as Pitino wasn’t attainable, but a nice filet mignon might be in the form of Archie Miller from Dayton, Mick Cronin from Cincinnati or Randy Bennett from Saint Mary’s.
