UNLV’s first year coach, Tony Sanchez, will make his first appearance in the Battle for the Fremont Cannon game Saturday when he leads the Rebels into Reno to play the Wolf Pack.
But the game won’t mark Sanchez’s first appearance at Mackay Stadium. When he was a wide receiver at New Mexico State in 1994, the Lobos played in Reno. And Sanchez, whose team lost that game 45-24, has one vivid memory from his Mackay Stadium experience more than two decades later.
“I remember walking onto the field and one of the guys in the crowd physically grabbed one of our players,” Sanchez said.
