The University of Connecticut named David Benedict, formerly of Auburn, as its athletic director Monday afternoon.
Wolf Pack athletic director Doug Knuth, who played tennis for the Huskies in the 1990s, was a candidate for the position.
Knuth agreed to a three-year contract extension with Nevada in late January and the contract is up for approval by the Nevada Board of Regents during their meeting Wednesday and Thursday. He was believed to be one of UConn's top candidates for their opening.
Benedict, who is Auburn's chief operating officer, also has served at Minnesota (2012-14), VCU (2010-12), Long Beach State (2007-10) and Arizona State (1996-2006).
