San Diego State’s dynamic rushing duo of Donnel Pumphrey and Rashaad Penny delivered the one-two knockout punch to what was left of Nevada’s bowl aspirations Saturday night at Mackay Stadium.
Pumphrey and Penny powered the Aztecs’ potent running game, combining for 406 yards and three touchdowns, as SDSU crushed the Wolf Pack 46-16 in the wire-to-wire victory before 16,730 fans.
Pumphrey, one of the top contenders for this year’s Heisman Trophy, moved past DeAngelo Williams into fourth in NCAA history in career rushing. He gained 198 yards on 26 carries, including a 3-yard score. But he was outdone by Penny, who ran for 208 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries.
