MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary’s used the same five starters in all 35 games last season, a quintet that returned in full form this year. But Friday night against Nevada, it was the Gaels' secret weapon that doomed the Wolf Pack.
Junior Jock Landale, a 6-foot-11 center who made a surprise start, the first of his career, was nearly unstoppable and so, too, was the offense of Saint Mary’s, which scored a 81-63 victory before a sellout crowd of 3,500 fans at McKeon Pavilion.
“It’s like a wake-up call," senior guard Marcus Marshall said.
Landale scored 16 points in the first half en route to a career-high 33 on 15-of-20 shooting.
