Reno High alum Christian Chamberlain won a national championship Thursday and tied an NCAA record this week in the process.
The freshman left-handed pitcher watched as his Oregon State Beavers beat the Arkansas Razorbacks, 5-0, on Thursday night in Omaha, Neb., in game three of the series to clinch the championship.
But Chamberlain played a big role in the first game of the series. Relieving Luke Heimlich on Tuesday, Chamberlain struck out a career-high 11 in 4u2154 shutout innings in a 4-1 loss. Those 11 punch-outs tied the record for strikeouts by a reliever in a College World Series game, tying Texas’ Calvin Schiraldi in 1983.
