Colorado State began the game with the ball and the Rams moved to midfield before Ian Seau popped QB Nick Stevens and Rykeem Yates picked the ball out of the air for a fumble recovery. Nevada took over at the Arizona 41 and moved to the 4-yard line but three straight runs were stuffed and Brent Zuzo hit a 19-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. CSU moved to midfield on its next drive, but stalled there and was forced to punt. The Wolf Pack drove past midfield and hit on a big run that would have moved Nevada inside the 20 but the play was negated by a holding penalty and time expired in the first quarter.
