Nevada diver Sharae Zheng, who has been a member of the Wolf Pack for just three months, became the school's eighth Division I national champion Thursday when she won the 1-meter dive at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta.
Zheng, a native of Chengdu, China who joined the team after the winter break, scored a 344.95 points to top UCLA's Eloise Belanger, who finished second with 336 points, and Miami's Pei Lin, who was third with 332.20 points. Wolf Pack teammate Krysta Palmer, a Douglas High graduate, finished ninth with a score of 310.7.
Zheng is the Wolf Pack's first individual national champion in 14 years.
