Pack's Dameon Baber shows he's ready from the start

During the Nevada football team’s first practice of fall camp, head coach Brian Polian, with a smile on his face, walked to a reporter on the sideline at Wolf Pack Park and said, “Did you see Baber?”

The reference was to Dameon Baber, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety from Southern California. The kid was only an 18-year-old true freshman, but Polian’s excitement over his new player was easy to see. And last Saturday, when Baber made his college debut, it was even easier to see why Polian was so excited.

In his first college game, Baber had 10 tackles and two interceptions, one in the end zone to thwart a potential scoring drive and the second to seal Nevada’s 24-21 victory over Buffalo.
