The Wolf Pack football team’s schedule was released Wednesday and the annual Battle for the Fremont Cannon game against longtime rival UNLV will cap the 2016 campaign in the regular-season finale.
The rivalry game was played Oct. 1 last season, a date that didn’t please officials from either side. But the Mountain West allowed each school to designate a preferred date for one conference game this year and Nevada and UNLV both opted to have the game placed on the traditional rivalry week.
“I feel like it presents a number of great opportunities for our football team – road games against nationally recognized programs in Notre Dame and Purdue, home games against conference foes Fresno State, Wyoming, San Diego State, and Utah State and the opportunity to finish the regular season with a rivalry game in Las Vegas,” coach Brian Polian said of the 2016 schedule in a news release.
