The Wolf Pack basketball team didn’t receive a verbal commitment from a prospect Tuesday but it got a lot closer to landing an extra piece for its 2017-18 roster.
CBS’ Jon Rothstein reported Tuesday that Hallice Cooke, who transferred to Nevada in May only to be medically disqualified in July with a heart condition, has been cleared to play next season.
The Wolf Pack said Cooke is making progress toward being cleared but hasn’t been as of yet.
Cooke had to sit out the 2016-17 season under NCAA transfer rules. When he learned he wouldn’t be medically cleared because of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a small growth on his heart that is the leading cause of sudden death in young athletes, he shifted to a student assistant coach role.
