The Nevada baseball team struck first but New Mexico struck far more often during their Mountain West Tournament opener Thursday at Santa Ana Star Field.
The host Lobos pasted the Wolf Pack, 7-2, to send Nevada into an elimination game against Fresno State at 2 p.m. Friday.
Nevada (19-35) opened the scoring after a Justin Bridgman walk in the first inning was followed by a two-run homer by Michael Echavia.
But the Wolf Pack was held scoreless thereafter as New Mexico picked up three runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three more in the seventh.
