The Wolf Pack has found little trouble digging out of halftime holes in recent games, but Saturday night in the championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout it came up 0.5 seconds shy of the title after trailing yet again at intermission.
Iona’s Jon Severe scored the game-winning layup with 0.5 seconds left to give the Gaels a 75-73 victory over Nevada in a rematch of a game played at Lawlor Events Center just six days earlier. While that game was essentially a warm-up for the Thanksgiving weekend tournament, Saturday's game was for some hardware.
“Get a bucket,” Severe said of his mindset on the final play.
