The Nevada baseball team dropped a pitcher’s duel to New Mexico on Saturday, 3-2, in front of 899 fans at Peccole Park.
Junior Trevor Charpie made his first start at Nevada, taking a two-hitter through six innings.
The Lobos (8-5, 2-0) scored three runs on four hits in the seventh inning. Nevada (4-10, 0-4) rallied with two runs in the eighth but couldn’t push the game-tying run across, suffering its fifth straight defeat.
In the seventh, Charpie surrendered three straight hits, including an RBI single for the game’s first run, before being relieved by junior RHP Evan McMahan, who allowed an RBI single and an RBI sacrifice bunt.
