LAS VEGAS — With the 3-pointers not falling, Nevada pivoted to its inside game Wednesday against New Mexico.
That turned out to be the right recipe to keep the Wolf Pack's slim chances at a Mountain West championship alive.
Nevada outscored New Mexico 40-20 in the paint en route to a 79-72 win in the first round of the Mountain West men's basketball tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Nevada improved to 13-17 and secured a quarterfinals game at noon Thursday against top-seeded Boise State (24-7). The Pack and Broncos last played March 1, with Boise State holding on for a six-point win.
