The Nevada basketball team will open the season as the seventh-rated team in the nation, according to the AP Top 25 poll released Monday.
The Wolf Pack totaled 1,230 points in the prestigious media poll, finishing behind only Kansas, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Duke, Virginia, and Tennessee. Each of those teams received at least one first-place vote; Nevada did not have a first-place vote.
Monday's poll was the first AP Top 25 of the season.
The seventh-place ranking is the highest in school history. Nevada's previous best ranking was ninth, on Feb. 26, 2007.
Nevada returns four starters from last season's 29-8 team, including preseason all-Mountain West picks Caleb Martin, Cody Martin and Jordan Caroline.
