The Wolf Pack baseball team added Abe Alvarez, a former big-league pitcher and World Series winner who is legally blind in one eye, to its staff Thursday as an assistant coach.
Alvarez was a standout at Long Beach State, the same school Nevada head coach T.J. Bruce attended as a senior, before appearing in three big-league seasons.
“We are beyond excited to have Abe join our baseball staff for the upcoming season,” Bruce said in a news release. “His experience both at the collegiate and major league levels will be vital to our team’s success moving forward and help us take the next step as a program.
