Mountain West rankings: Bulldogs take over; Wolf Pack moves up

It’s an old debate when the subject of polls or rankings comes up, and there’s probably not a great answer that will please everyone.

Namely: Should you penalize a team for winning?

In this case, we’re going with “yes.”

Fresno State (6-1 overall, 3-0 Mountain West), with its dominant defense, moves into the top slot of the RGJ’s Mountain West football rankings following its 38-7 demolition of New Mexico.

That comes at the expense of former No. 1 San Diego State (6-1, 3-0), which has looked less-than-overwhelming in its recent home wins over Air Force (21-17) and San Jose State (16-13).
