The Mountain West has joined a number of other conferences in electing to follow the most recent NCAA guidelines for COVID-19 isolation, a move that could help the MW reduce its current level of basketball postponements.
The biggest change in the latest NCAA guidelines is a reduction of the isolation period for winter sports athletes with a positive COVID-19 test from 10 days to five days. The MW’s board of directors approved the change on Thursday.
The conference has been hit by a wave of basketball postponements since the beginning of league play on Dec. 28. Through Friday, the MW has postponed 13 men’s games and seven women’s games, totals which include three Nevada men’s games and two women’s games.
